    Sony delivers the best!

I have used Sony, Maxell, TDK and Memorex. Memorex is my least favorite of the four as the sound quality is not as good as the others. Sony, however, is the best. I've read reviews on all CD-R Music recordable CDs and some have stated they have problems including skipping and poor sound reproduction. While Sony is light years ahead of Maxell and Memorex (especially Memorex), I don't understand the problems some reviewers have had. I have had no problems and have used all (mostly Sony) for nearly two years with excellent results. Perhaps some simply do not take care of their CDs (mishandling, scratching them, not putting them back in the case after play, using inferior equipment to record/burn, etc.) I have burned over 100 CDs using the Sony CD-Rs and, in some cases, the Sony CD sounds better than the original CD or LP. I burn CDs using my laptop and also my Sony CD recorder. I've burned songs from my iTunes library (excellent sound quality!!) and from old records (both 45s and LPs)... 5/5 D. Christopher Tolkien unveils the truth about The Silmarillion

The War of the Jewels is one of the most misunderstood and underrated volumes in the History of Middle-earth series. Although it is primarily a scholarly work which explains precisely how Christopher Tolkien brought together the various sources to produce the published Silmarillion, this book also opens up new vistas into First Age Middle-earth that readers never imagined could exist.Casual readers will enjoy "The Wanderings of Hurin", which Christopher has editorialized to some extent. The story of what Hurin REALLY did after he left Morgoth's domain is an eye-opening experience, and it explains why the sons of Earendil and Elwing were the last heirs of the heroic chieftains of the Edain. But "The Wanderings of Hurin" also gives us the only detailed view of the Folk of Haleth, the mysterious woodmen who figured so prominently in "Narn i Chin Hurin", the tale of Turin Turambar.Another fantastic gem lies between the covers of this book, however... 5/5 Michael Martinez - See all my reviews This review is from: The War of the Jewels: The Later Silmarillion, Part Two (The History of Middle-Earth, Vol. 11) (Hardcover) The War of the Jewels is one of the most misunderstood and underrated volumes in the History of Middle-earth series. A "must" for all J.R.R. Tolkien fans!

Since J.R.R. Tolkien's death in 1973, a substantial effort has been made by first Guy Gavriel Kay working with Christopher Tolkien, then Christopher Tolkien but also a host of only marginally acknowledged Tolkien scholars such\ as Taum Santoski, John Rateliff, Doug Anderson, Richard C. West and possibly others unknown to us, to make the body of J.R.R. Tolkien's lifework available to those of us wishing to watch the creative process of architecture of Tolkien's world unfold. Early on in the process, there was a parting of the ways between Guy Gavriel Kay and J.R.R. Tolkien's son, Christopher, over the form that J.R.R. Tolkien's posthumously-published lifework would be presented. G.G. Kay opted for a posthumous collaboration format which would allow for the presentation of much of the work in a finished form. Christopher Tolkien chose a more scholarly option. Each approach has its advantages and audiences. While The History of Middle Earth in its currently eleven volumes... 5/5 Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: The War of the Jewels: The Later Silmarillion, Part Two (The History of Middle-Earth, Vol. 11) (Hardcover) Since J.R.R. History of Middle Earht nearing the end!

In the eleventh volume of the History of Middle Earth Christopher Tolkien continues from where he left off in "Morgoth's Ring". It spans the time from the Siege of Angband to the Tale of Maeglin. Also included are the Grey Annals, which are a timeline of the events in Beleriand, and The Wanderings of Hurin, which is an interesting story about Hurin after his release from Angband. This is a must have for those that have read the previous HoME volumes or for any Tolkien fan. 5/5 olorin69@hotmail.com - See all my reviews This review is from: The War of the Jewels: The Later Silmarillion, Part Two (The History of Middle-Earth, Vol. 11) (Hardcover) In the eleventh volume of the History of Middle Earth Christopher Tolkien continues from where he left off in "Morgoth's Ring". Warning: This is NOT the original version

Don't buy this book expecting a reprinting of the original 1982 Choose Your Own Adventure book. The text has been revised, though the revision is serviceable enough; but what's worse is that all of the illustrations have been replaced with really bad cartoons. The drawings in this book aren't quite as bad as those in some of the other rereleases (like Journey Under The Sea), but so many of them are amateurish and badly drawn that it's difficult to read the book without being distracted by them. (Many of them are also unrelated to the text. One page ends with you being eaten by a crocodile. The picture accompanying it is of a Moroccan man with a horribly out-of-proportion face.)Buy a used copy of the original book, or choose something else to read. 2/5 Laura Redish (Twin Cities, Minnesota) - See all my reviews, April 20, 2007

    The Best Large Capacity DVD

In a nutshell . . . if you need to burn something onto a DVD that is larger than 4.7GB, buy these disks!!!If you've ever tried to burn something onto a DVD and gotten the error stating there isn't enough space then look no further, this is the way to solve that dilemma. When it comes to burning disks (images, movies, data, music) sometimes the standard 4.7GB 120min capacity DVDs aren't enough. Thank goodness there is Verbatim! It's not hard to find large capacity DVD+R disks, you can find them at Walmart or any office supply store. The DVD-R disks however are pretty hard to come buy.So when I found these I was overjoyed. The burn speed is standard for this size (4x) which is slower than regular size 4.7GB disks, but the wait is worth it.Verbatim is known for their quality disks. It's a DVD so expect fingerprints to be more of a nuisance than on a typical CD, but Verbatim disks clean easy and don't streak as bad. Many proclaim that the... 5/5 Lightfoot Osolage (on Hoth selling tanktops) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) A really great deal!

These cases are durable and colorful! None of that dull black or transparent stuff. They're made from the company that makes the best CD-Rs, Verbatim. Definitely snag the 100pk of the ValueLife CD-Rs. They're great because they have no logos or typing on the front of the Disc. So, if you want to make labels, there's no risk of anything showing through. Plus, the CDs are of such high quality. I've never had a problem with any of them and I've purchased at least 300 Verbatims by now. If you're looking for the 100pk, I recommended it in addition to this product above. Don't clutter up your CD rack with bulky, brittle, and dull jewel cases. On Display: The Guts of Science Fiction

When this was first published in 1977, there was very little first-rate critical analysis of science fiction, or even much analysis of any degree of excellence. Delany, as part and parcel of his young career as a science fiction writer, who by the time of this book had already published several novels, from fair to outstanding in quality (Nova, The Einstein Intersection, Babel-17, The Jewels of Aptor, The Fall of the Towers), also did some deep delving into just what science fiction is, what makes it tick, what makes for good sf, what many of the common failings of sf are, why sf is distinct from mundane fiction. This work is significant in that it helped raise the consciousness level of sf within the hallowed halls of academia while at the same time raised the bar for working sf writers, forcing them to really look at both the how and why of what they were writing. This particular edition (2009) is an updated version of the original publication, and there are changes to... 4/5 Patrick Shepherd "hyperpat" (San Jose, CA USA) - See all my reviews, August 21, 2009

One bad disc. No customer service.

I bought a pack of these a long while ago. I use them to back up blu-rays that I've bought. The first two I burned worked perfectly. When I put the third one in to burn it (using ImgBurn for windows) everything was going great. I burned it on 2x, but it failed verification, and wont play in my Playstation. I contacted verbatim because these are so expensive, and I don't want to just be using them as coasters, but they have not gotten back to me. Gold Archival CDs

I chose these CDs because I wanted to backup photos. Most CDs decline over time, and are thus not good for long term storage. Gold CDs are called archival because they last much longer. Obviously I do not know yet if this will work over time, but I will use these as one more way to protect my digital photos.
